What a weekend. *groan* Came home Friday night (after doing my first adoption at the cat shelter) and found that my hard drive was about to crash. At least Win 7 warned me. So I did a few stupid things first to try to back up my stuff online - and all the wrong files got transferred - and then got smart and started moving things to my external and flash drives. I got my email moved, except for a few problems with the inboxes for my two main email accounts *headdesk*, got my Firefox profile moved, copied all of my music, and then started on my videos. Got a lot of them transferred, but maybe not all.

And I didn't get any of my graphics backed up. I think a bunch of pictures that I'd bought from WireImage got saved to the online backup site, but I may be missing very nearly every last one of my icons. What makes it worse is that I'd zapped about 60 icons from LJ in anticipation of reverting to a basic account mid-month. I may have some stuff on my work computer, but I won't know until Tuesday. I'm kind of heartbroken about this, but if it's all I've lost... well, that's still one boatload of work that I loved dearly at the time.

I'm going to take the drive out of the PC and put it into an external enclosure and see if there's any way I can get the things I still want/need off that way, but it's a long shot. I may even see if I can get Geek Squad to attempt it. I got a 2-year Geek Squad membership with my new pseudo-laptop. The new computer is about 10 lbs, so it isn't exactly portable. I bought it as a desktop replacement but I have a feeling I won't use it that way long. It depends on how hard it is to use with an external monitor. Because even a 17.3" monitor isn't sufficient for playing WoW.

Speaking of which, I am installing that as I type. It's gone pretty quickly and will probably be done right about when I want to go watch Amazing Race & Mythbusters & Next Iron Chef (Sunday night is crowded with tv).

I'm also listening to Mandy on iTunes. The speakers on this thing are better than my external speakers, so I disconnected them after a bit. They weren't working consistently on the laptop, anyway.

Getting this computer was a job in and of itself, but I pretty well went through that on Facebook and Twitter, so I won't repeat it here. Suffice it to say that it took three trips to three different Best Buy stores and a hell of a lot of being a lot more assertive than I'm usually comfotable with to get exactly what I wanted. Why on earth did everyone decide to make Windows 7 disappear the minute Win 8 came out?

So much for spending my 3-day weekend playing WoW. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to play it a little tomorrow. But I'm supposed to go out with Brad to dinner tomorrow, to a pizza place that is having a fund-raiser for the cat shelter. And I spent most of today with him. In addition to the usual football-watching, we went to a local cat show.

Well, I can't update absolutely everything that's gone on since I last posted, but I guess this will do.

And I'm using this icon just because I'm so delighted that I still have it!
