Should I stay or should I go?
Dec. 13th, 2012 07:48 pmDreamwidth hasn't yet shown any particular signs of life, but LJ gets more and more dead by the moment - and I hate the new Friends page. We can opt out of it... for now. I suspect that won't last. I'll probably always read both because each has some comms I can't get elsewhere, but neither one seems like anywhere I much want to stay, so I'm trying to at least consider the alternatives.
First off, there's my blog. It's not much of a blog, but it's mine and WordPress isn't too difficult to use for basic entries. It's not easy to customize, so I spend a lot of time hunting down a tolerable theme. And embedding stuff in entries there is a dog. It might be easier if I'd use it more, but as it is, there's a steep learning curve. And no one will ever find my entries unless I advertise them - which I'm not terribly comfortable with. Hell, I've stopped following an awful lot of bloggers on Twitter because their only Tweets are those that advertise their latest posts.
I've got a Tumblr somewhere. Oh, it's chitown-gal.tumblr.com. I'm never terribly original, am I? But it's utterly empty and I have no clue how to use it. I thought Tumblr was mostly for pictures, but now that seems to be the domain of Pinterest. I have one of those, too, but I haven't the least clue how to use it. Talk about learning curve!
So. Keep doing the double-post thing, although I think I'm going to let my DW account devolve into a free account the next time it comes up for renewal? Move to the blog? Try out Tumblr? Or just give up since I'm not exactly posting anything anywhere these days? Decisions, decisions....
Side-rant: WTF has happened to iTunes? They're really begging me to stop using it with this latest format change.
I have a few more rants building - one in particular is almost past its sell-by date because I've been sitting on it so long - but I'm saving them for wherever I decide to keep posting.
